Review of In the Bedroom (2001) by Chad F — 20 Jan 2009
Quite possibly the most depressing movie I have ever seen. This is truly a gem that slipped through everyone's thoughts. A masterpiece nominated for Best Picture in 2001. I remember walking into the theater when I worked there, seeing a certain scene from this movie, and all of a sudden having the desire to start watching indie films for the first time ever.
it was jaw-dropping. It wasn't until now that I came across the DVD for 3 bucks and finally got to watch the whole thing. The pace is morose. The gloom lurks. The sadness eats you up. The performances are uncanny, especially from Tom Wilkinson and Sissy Spacek.
I can't even say more. If you want to see a good drama (if you're into movies like American Beauty) - just give this a shot. It will eat you up. So good. So sad.
