Review of In the Bedroom (2001) by Rocknblues 8 — 14 Oct 2009
Awesome directional debut by Todd Field who went on to direct another awesome picture called Little Children. I can understand how this slow burning character study is not for everyone, but I just enjoyed every bit of it. I would argue that a large part of the cast turns in career or near career performances. Clearly everyone was on the same page here.
This movie largely deals with grief and the falling apart of a longtime marriage. Todd Field takes his time showing the grief from each parent and the conclusion isn't an overly pleasant one, but you can understand the pain and the drive that leads to the characters making the choices that they do in the end.
