Review of In My Skin (2002) by Rob R — 19 Apr 2010
A rip roaring screwball comedy in which a sexy french girl cuts her legs to ribbons by accident when wandering around a building site. For some crazy reason she doesn't feel this horrific gash and wonders what it would be like to slash herself up a bit more - not by accident! And so the rollercoaster of laughs begins.
This was a bit grim - much like Secretary and then a bit. It seemed like a lot was left to the imagination, especially in the first half as glimpses of the wounds and scars are fleeting but when she starts chewing on her skin (and then on) it gets a bit graphic. To me it felt rather self-indulgent in places as the exagerations (I hope) and metaphors probably didn't add much to what is a quite powerful subject anyway. Listening a little to the directors' commentary did help a bit with explaining what was on her mind (eg the split screen stuff) but yeah, not gonna watch this again in the near future.
Music and soundtrack was good and the acting was, well, French.
