Review of In Hell (2003) by Lazara C — 27 Nov 2010
Once again I've proven myself wrong. JCVD didn't get layed in this one, he didn't do his spinning wheel kick but he did kick lots of ass. So there is some unpredictability in the career of the infamous JCVD, you just have find them. Van Damme plays Kyle who is sentenced to life inprisonment after he kills the man who raped and murdered his wife. While incarcerated, inmates are forced to fight one another while the warden and guards bet and watch for entertainment.
Kyle is forced to share a cell with a violent murderer known as inmate 451 (Lawrence Taylor). After Kyle is forced to play their game over and over, 451 convinces Kyle to question the man he has become.
It's a surprisingly good low budget prison drama. No signature Van Damme here and it almost seemed like a voice over during the fight scenes. It just didn't seem like JCVD's voice, but I could be wrong. The whole deal with the large mentally handicapped masked ogre guy was very over the top and was completely unnecessary but it was a small part of the movie. So that wasn't too bad. I suggest it though if you like JCVD or prison dramas. It's definitely a hard R- rating though so keep the kiddos away.
