Review of In Good Company (2008) by Ricardo V — 12 Mar 2008
Unlike 'love song for bobby long' this film I can say unbiased-ly is a very good small film. it's funny at the right places and doesn't try to overtug on the emotional heartstrings. the story is about a young guy taking over as boss of a company while this other older guy is bumped down.
young guy falls in love with old guy's daughter, weirdness ensues. it's a small role for scarlett johan. that is challengingly and she can play in her sleep. a smart, young new yorker. not challenging at all.
but it's really dennis quaid and topher grace's performances that bring this movie a little more interest. they're performances are really well done, to the point even now about a year since i've seen it last, I still must admit they did a great job.
one of my all time (no lie) most funniest moments i've ever seen in movies comes during topher grace's first big meeting with his employees. to this day it brings a smile on my face for the director to have both written that in the script and for topher to pull it off perfectly.
it's not an independent, hard to grasp, philosophical movie, but it's a very very good movie nevertheless.
