Review of In Good Company (2004) by Jose M — 19 Sep 2009
This is not another romantic comedy, quite the contrary, I did not find it at all funny. Nonetheless, I enjoyed this movie because it juxtaposes a charismatic young sale executive (Topher Grace), with seemingly everything going for him, and a middle-aged over-the-hill advertising exec (Dennis Quaid) who seems to be at the end of his rope, in terms of his career.
In spite of the contrasts, this movie ultimately is a coming of age for Grace's character, who is lost as far as having a direction for what he wants to do with his life. The romance with Quaid's daughter (Scarlett Johansson) is really secondary to this crisis of identity.
The film is really noteworthy for the terrific performances by Quaid and Grace as the two foils for one another, and they play off of each other excellently. Good performances, and a solid film.
