Review of In Darkness (2011) by Mark H — 16 Dec 2011
4 out of 5 stars. Master filmmaker Agnieszka Holland returns to top form with a new type of holocaust story, which is kind of Anne Frank surviving in a Polish sewer (not a joke - it's a true story).
Beautifully shot and acted, it's certainly as bleak as expected, but Holland is such a great director ("Europa Europa", "The Secret Garden", "Total Eclipse", "Washington Square") that you are taken on a worthwhile journey with every film she presents.
This is another highlight in her stellar career.
