Review of In Bruges (2008) by Kenneth B — 26 Jan 2014
My favorite movie of all time. When I watched this, I have never enjoyed a movie as much as this one. The best part of this movie is it's dialogue. The interactions between characters in this movie is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard.
Even minor encounters with tourists or citizens just make you either die of laughter or cry your eyes out. Quotable line after quotable line, this movie has so many of those. Colin Farrell puts on one of his best performances as an actor.
He portrays many different emotions as a troubled man with a shady past, something that is hard to do as an actor. He can laugh, he can cry, he can fight, he can do it all basically. As good as Colin was, however, by far the best actor in this movie was by Brendan Gleeson.
His character was so funny, loyal, and so greatly-played that during every line he uttered you were filled with joy, during his comical scenes. His emotional scenes, however, were a different story. His comical scenes were great, but his emotional scenes were even better.
I'm not embarrassed to say that this is one of the best performances put on of all time. The soundtrack is perfect. Nothing more can be said. The cinematography is incredible. There were many beautiful shots of Bruges, Belgium, as well as the characters.
The action was great, as well, perfectly coinciding with the humorous outputs. A film that everyone should truly see and experience. It has to be seen to be believed.
