Review of In Bruges (2008) by Sumit S — 09 Nov 2012
Very well directed & even more effectively written, In Bruges is a mesmerizing tale of tragedy, guilt, friendship & principles.. all covered with a great layer of wit. Collin Farrell stars as a Bruges hating, guilt-ridden hitman whose first job goes horribly wrong.
Brendan Gleeson stars as his friend in love with Bruges & Ralph Fiennes, in a short but superb supporting role, as their boss. Its a tour of great locations in Bruges but also doesn't shy away from making fun of it whenever possible.
Smartly written with great dialoges & making excellent use of wit in the most unexpected moments, it not only succeeds as a great black comedy but also as an effective crime thriller. Overall, In Bruges is as hilarious as it is tragic.
An instant classic.
