Review of In Bruges (2008) by George X — 10 Feb 2013
Let me tell you what kills a movie's chances of being thought of as high-quality entertainment: when you watch it with somebody who made up their mind about the movie before it even starts. I am certain this could have definitely earned 4 stars because of the setting, the brilliant camaraderie between Farrell and Gleeson, and the pleasant, un-American, film-festival-flavoured production.
Instead, I found myself preoccupied with the impressions of the people I was watching the movie with and failed to appreciate the intricacies I am sure were present. This probably requires a secondary viewing.
