Review of In & Out (1997) by Jeanine B — 31 Aug 2007
One of the most underrated comedies ever, this is a hilarious film, packed full of memorable one liners, great sight gags and side splitting monologues (the intersection scene between Selleck and Kline is amazing!).
There are many great performances throughout the film, Matt Dillon plays superstar Cameron Drake, who "outs" Howard Brackett, Shalom Harlow plays the dumb rich supermodel, this is one of the funniest performances in the film.
Tom Selleck plays Peter Malloy, a gay news reporter, who acts as Howards guide throughout his ordeal. There are also hilarious performances from Joan Cusack, Shawn Hatosy, and especially the older cast members, look out for the scene where they all sit down in the reception hall and spill their secrets.
Frank Oz directs to his usual high standard, and the script is top notch stuff, bursting with talent. This is one of the best comedies ever made, forget Austin Powers, forget American Pie, you want to laugh out loud without cringing at the same time, then watch this!
