Review of In & Out (1997) by Sandy B — 13 Nov 2014
In and Out is a brilliantly written spoof of "coming out" with equally brilliant performances by a stellar cast. Yes, it's broad comedy but that's what makes the stereotypes palatable and hilarious.
..from Joan Cusak sitting at the bar in her bridal dress and yelling "Is EVERYBODY gay?" to the bachelor party fight over Yentl and was Barbra Streisand too old. Only Kevin Klein, who in my estimation is one of today's greatest actors, could have kissed Tom Selleck with such repressed glee and Debbie Reynold's glare when she shows up at the door to confront her outed son.
Wilford Brimley and Bob Newhart and Matt Dillon round out this funny funny cast. I watch this movie once a year and still laugh out loud each and every time. Shake off your fears of laughing at stereotypes.
It's an intention farce is probably my 2nd favorite Kevin Klein move (behind Sophie's Choice).
