Review of In America (2003) by Emily B — 21 Apr 2008
Why this film did not win the Oscars of 2004 let alone get nominated (Mystic River? Who remembers that film?) is beyond me. It has replaced Good Will Hunting as my favourite movie. Painfully serene is the best way for me to describe.
It reasserts the family story... bringing on its true to life troubles and joys. Outstanding performances by Paddy Considine, Samantha Morton, and Djimon Hansou. The little girls in this film are just delightful and round out an exceptionally solid cast.
I found this film to be one of the most cathartic experiences. Excellent build and juxtaposition of story and shots. Beautiful in its expression of human compassion.
