Review of In America (2003) by Seyithan S — 25 Jul 2008
This film was a surprising experience for me. I don't know how it did it so inconspiculously, but this movie drew me in emotionally in mere minutes. This is the story of an Irish family who recently dealt with a terrible tragedy.
They come to America so the father can become and actor. This film is something like a gritty fairy tall. It shows life like it would really be in New York, but we see it through the eyes of the elder daughter who still has a faith and imagination of a child.
The story is endearing and quite beautiful at times. The acting is fantastic. Samantha Morton and Djimon Honsou were nominated for Academy Awards for their roles and they deserve it. They were both fantastic.
Lesser rewarded were the two daughters who were both incredibly natural. The older played by Sarah Bolger was especially good. This is a beautful gem.
