Review of In America (2003) by Darryl L — 24 Jun 2009
I judge movies by their front covers. When I saw this one, I thought Jamie Lee Curtis was in the picture and picked it up. This is odd, since I would run from a family drama starring Jamie Lee Curtis. But I read the back of the DVD case, discovered that the woman on the front is not Jamie Lee Curtis, and that Ebert et al liked it.
I didn't know anything about this movie and, in fact, only now discovered it was released in 2002 and had three Oscar nominations that year. I write all this to avoid writing about the movie itself because I'd like you to watch it blind, with no knowledge of the story.
Unfortunately my four-star rating now creates an expectation. Sorry about that. Okay, the family is Irish. That's all I'll say. Go forth and watch In America.
