Review of In a World... (2013) by Neil Mikel L — 27 Aug 2013
Really funny with great timing and great performances from everyone (especially Lake Bell who did just as good of a job writing and directing the film). This will probably be even better for huge film buffs; I, at least, found the voice recording, ADR work, and editing scenes to be rather interesting and furthermore because it was kind of sardonically done.
However, it was still respectful of the work. There's a subplot regarding Lake Bell's sister that doesn't really do anything to the story and is too happily resolved very quickly which kind of took away from the film from a writing perspective, but that's not to say that it was a huge hindrance overall.
I feel as if Lake Bell felt inclined to include said story line because this is her first screenplay so she wanted to include everything that she's always wanted to. But the movie is still clever and made me smile and laugh a lot, and I can't wait to see what Lake Bell does next.
8.5/10, great, one thumb up, above average, etc.
