Review of In a World... (2013) by David T — 19 Jan 2014
"In A World...".
Sweetest, funniest & best film I've seen all year. If that gets one of you to seek out this gem then I've succeeded. This film, with hardly anyone you know except in cameos, is Far better than any "Big Star" romantic comedy blockbuster out there from any year.
Lake Bell is actor, writer & director of this beautiful film. She takes the RomCom formula and kicks it way up, showing the audience that we aren't dumb, at least most of us. Everything seems a quite a bit 'crazed' but normal too, like I could have some friends like these...and I do.
You can look up the plot for yourself, but I'll give you some of what I loved about it.
- Her Father is a jerk and never supports her or has anything good to say & we see how this affects her and her sister in their self-esteem.
- "the Sweetness" the romantic part starts low-key & gets somewhat embarrassing, fun & silly until...Yes! Perfect!
- A relationship is stressed to the breaking point because of an "affair" and we see the pain and pleasure of it all...
- There is a competition among 2 men & 1 woman and guess who wins?...and that leads to the gentle Empowerment lesson, which is why women and men should see it. FYI: there is One F-word, which is appropriate for the scene & no stupid, uncomfortable sex scenes. Other than that a fairly tame film...Enjoy ::).
