In A World....three famous words coined by the famous American voice actor, Don LaFontaine, have been heard by millions. He's voiced thousands of movie, video game, and television advertisements. He is known as: The Voice of God, Thunder Throat, and The King of Movie Trailers. In 2008, LaFontaine passed away due to pneumothorax. "In A World'' is directed by it's star, Lake Bell. The cast also includes Nick Offerman, Demetri Martin, Rob Corddry, Michaela Watkins, Ken Marino, and Tig Notaro.

Carol Solomon (Bell) is the daughter of famous voice actor, Sam Sotto. Like her dad, Carol aspires to be a voice actor, despite the fact that the industry isn't looking for a female voice actress. Determined, Carol pushes forward. She soon gets several gigs, one of which is voicing a commercial for The Amazon Games movie trailer. Unfortunately for her, Sam is also interested in this gig. When he finds out his own daughter is trying out for the part, he attempts to beat her.

Lake Bell, I must say, does an extraordinary job not only in her role, but as a director. She's never directed a film before, so as a debut this is impressive. Her performance is quite good. She is the star of the film, and the character you root for. She's very much that nerdy girl who wants to do what she loves. As previously mentioned, female voie artists aren't what the industry is looking for, but Carol doesn't give a shit. She knows she's good, and she pushes onward. The film has many quirky characters, and the cast universally does a fine job. Many of you will recognize Nick Offerman from Parks and Recreation. He makes a brief appearance in the film. Ultimately, the film is about Carol and her career. Her father isn't incredibly supportive of her or her sister. This family tension ultimately plays into the end of the film.

"In A World'' is one of the better comedy films I've seen in a while. It's got a really positive message at its core about empowering young women, and it's incredibly funny. I was taken aback at how good it really was. The cast is just so enjoyable to watch on screen. That mixed with the fantastic script, performances, and direction make this a rather superb, yet simple film.
