Review of In a World... (2013) by Lane Z — 27 May 2014
These actors sure do like getting behind the camera these days as much as they enjoy acting in front of it, so, why not do both for Lake Bell? She's just quirky enough to carry the lead on her own, even though she has a fine supporting cast of surprisingly well-known players. The theme of the film may be a little girl looking for daddy's approval when he's dating a girl your age, but it's also about succeeding for yourself. Play it a bit selfishly if you have to is what I get out of this. What's also great is the satirical nature of the plot. What's great is, I have no idea if this is an accurate portrayal of the voice-over industry or an exaggerated one. Not that the film will have you in stitches, but you'll be goofing along with Bell and her supporting cast none-the-less.
Bell delivers a surprise directing, acting and writing experience everyone should check out. Let's hope she continues to play the jack of all trades in the near future.
