Review of In a Valley of Violence (2016) by John R — 03 Dec 2017
171202: Because westerns are not common, at least higher budget westerns, my reviews may be a tad high. This film, in all honesty, is more likely three stars but I had never heard of it until yesterday.
And, the last new western I saw was The Magnificent Seven (2016) in September, three months ago. With that, my rating of Valley of Violence benefits slightly withdrawal symptoms. A good film featuring some pretty decent actors representing almost unique characters.
..that's a lot of qualifiers upon reflection. This film is for western fans. I'd almost say harder core western fans. It left me a bit flat in some ways but had enough to please. Violence, nasty as well as veiled cowards, horseflesh, firearms (big kudos for the Schofield), women and almost an appealing, mysterious story.
Can a western fan ask for much more? Yes, perhaps just a tad.
