Review of In a Lonely Place (1950) by Phil C — 11 Mar 2008
THE essential Bogart performance. With the possible exception of Sierra Madre it's really the only time he let self-doubt creep into his character. Gloria Grahame is gorgeous and magnificent; very few actresses could be both intelligent and recklessly ditsy, but she did it time and again in the 40's/50's.
Haunting theme tune, Nick Ray directing, the doomed Hollywood romance to end all romances.
