Review of In a Lonely Place (1950) by Cody F — 06 Jul 2008
Great film and as Keith would say "Bogie's just being Bogie." Let me tell you a little something about Bogart, out of all the leading men of the golden age of film he is leaps and bounds the best and most diverse actor of them all.
I love Cooper,Tracey, and Gable but they did play the same character their whole career, which I don't mind. You watch Bogie in Casablanca, then Sierra Madre, then watch this film and you have 3 completly different characters.
You have the tough, smart, cool as ice saloon keeper, then you have the paranoid murderer with gold fever, and in this film he is a hollywood writer with no self confidence, anger issues and acts like a spoiled child.
While everyone else played it safe Bogart would go after the challenge, no wonder a 19yr old model fell for him. I know this review is more about Bogie than In A Lonely Place but it's a great performance in a good flick.
