Review of In a Better World (2010) by Chris M — 30 Apr 2011
The most amazing thing about this movie is not the story but how shocked I was about the approach to solving problems people have around the world.
Having lived in the US for many years now, you grow accustomed that any problem is best solved by violence. It doesn't have to be physical. I can be verbal, through intimidation or competition.
In this movie you experience people with problems that range from the trivial to the extreme. There is a need for peace and calm and not many would be capable of keeping their cool.
The characters in this movie exist all over the world. They can be your neighbors, friends or coworkers. They are not rich or beautiful or particularly smart. They are simple people living their lives and their problems, however small can be monumental in their eyes.
I really liked this movie and think it's a great example of how the world is what's around you. You can live in the best, most comfortable place and still feel overwhelmed by your own reality.
In a better world probably did not deserve the Oscar for best foreign film but it's certainly a great movie that anyone with a triple digit IQ should enjoy.
