Review of In a Better World (2010) by John M — 30 Nov 2011
A slow moving, multi layered piece focusing on the way to deal with people who live their lives through bullying and intimidation, from the playground to adult life. It is easy for an adult to show his children that showing no fear in a non violent confrontation will suffice, but how well does one really know themselves when they are faced with something more harrowing and extreme? All the main characters forming the 2 families connected through their boys being in the same class at school are all interesting and convey well how past family trauma has an effect on how one conducts themselves on the school playground and how it continues in later life.
I'm not sure if the message was that violence is necessary in certain situations in the hands of the righteous, but a solid and emotional film none the less.
