Review of In a Bedroom (2012) by Cw M — 27 Jun 2011
Though the film may first appear as a standard, perhaps even pedestrian drama, the catalyst for the majority of the plot spins out in such a heartbreaking and stark way that it's tough to imagine making predictions as to what the main characters are about to go through.
The elements of the script would not pay such dividends without the smart, earthy performances from the entire cast. Many films feature great feats from a few gifted actors, but it's rare to find an ensemble that clicks at such a realistic level.
Those that dislike dramas in general will find plenty to hate, but there's enough subtlety and nuance wrapped around the film's most explosive moments that they trump the best efforts of intentionally exploitative or transgressive films.
A must-see for performances alone.
