Review of Import/Export (2007) by Christian S — 28 Jan 2008
Ulrich Seidl`s new film is about young people from Austria and the Ukraine, trying to build a decent life; surrounded by a cruel reality where everything, even human beings, can be baught and sold like merchandise.
Seidl uses non professional actors who play fantastic. Fiction and documentary are getting mixed up. The film gives us glimpses about poverty in Ukraine; about the ghettoisation of gypsies in Slovakia; about the pornindustry; about how we treat and institutionalise elderly and senile people.
This movie goes right through your heart. It`s for real, it`s honest. It halso has a lot of humour, otherwise it would`ve been too hard to watch. Touching! If I could, I would give 6 points!
