Review of Import/Export (2007) by Michal K — 13 Feb 2008
A very solid film with a very well tuned style. It may shock (especially the scene's involving sex-workers), but the rewards are great. Fascinating. The scene in the Gypsy neighborhood is both comic and tragic at once (as with the whole tone of the film).
The director has amazing control over the narrative, often blurring or crossing the line between the comic and the uncomfortable with amazing results. I can't wait to see more from Seidl.
