Review of Imperium (2016) by Lewis E — 23 Sep 2016
Daniel Radcliffe continues to earn my respect through his willingness to shake off the 'Harry Potter' residue and perform a variety of difficult roles. Progress is being made since his acting chops are slightly improving with each movie.
Nonetheless he has not completely removed the adolescent wizard from his persona because for me there remains a weakness to his presence which makes him unsuitable for this serious drama about white supremacy.
Admittedly he is not helped by a script which follows all the genre tropes and film directing severely lacking subtlety in its conveyance of a racist atmosphere. For true undercover tension, watch 'Donnie Brasco'.
For white supremacy, watch 'American History X' or 'Green Room'.
