Review of Imperium (2016) by Theirrelephants — 05 Sep 2016
Harry Potter and the Final Solution is an excellent movie. Radcliffe is a good actor bordering on great, even when he's not playing a child wizard.
Sadly, this is no American History X. What could have been a great film is instead just a propaganda flick with good acting. Where American History X actually attempted to show that both white and black racists have a point and aren't just walking strawmen, this movie attempts to paint nazis as either walking evil wacky caricatures of human beings or misunderstood, misguided haters who clearly need to be shown the right path. Heaven forbid someone with an opinion you find repulsive might actually have a point.
Fortunately it's saved by Radcliffe, and is still very watchable if you can ignore the propaganda.
Hilariously, as an aside note, I also watched an interview with Radcliffe about this movie, and the way he jumped to reassure the interviewer in a very over eager fashion that 'no no he'd never post on those sort of sites' when asked about how he browsed white supremacist websites in preparation for his work makes me think that he might have jumped down the rabbit hole himself.
