Dark and visually striking, there's little doubt it's an homage to '300'. Yet without developed characters and with a storyline mangled beyond all repair, it's as much a bastard as our main character Theseus.

Though even granting as much leeway as possible with the mythology the film claims to derive from, I question whether the writers are aware the true roles gods played in Greece; or have any idea who Hyperion and Theseus actually were inside the culture.

Apparently in an attempt to make the story unfurl in Hollywood fashion, the Olympians are hamstrung throughout most of the film so that our "hero" must take on the weight of an army himself.

And, naturally, the gods can be killed. Which is why the Titans were locked up after the battle to overthrow their rule, because why kill them when you can leave them hanging around for later. Henry Cavill actually cuts a nice figure as Theseus, but without anything to back him up it all falls flat.

With a half hour left to run, the film had already felt like an eternity, so perhaps the point of this heartless picture was to make the audience feel immortal.
