Review of Immortals (2011) by Eric H — 18 Jul 2012
An honest attempt to reproduce the success of 300 (2010) with the same exaggeration of graphic detail giving the film an overall comics look, utilising the endless sources of Ancient Greek myths and tales.
A mortal hero confronts a violent rogue orc army leader that wants to release the titans from a heavily guarded fortress and an impermeable cage. The hero himself hands him over a means to do it: a magic bow of unlimited force.
After the hero's failed attempt to defend the city the gods who believed the hero would save the day, have to interfere and most of them die in the violent bloodbath with the revolting titans and almost lose, only if the last god didn't destroy the mountain burying the titans under the mountain top.
The magic bow is wonderfully created by means of CGI, also, the rapid moves of the gods are done with excellency, the plot correctly recreates the gods' hesitant behaviour typical for Greek myths, but otherwise, it's a rather mediocre film with excessive CGI.
