Review of Immortals (2011) by Antony G — 10 Nov 2012
Greek Mythology according to Hollywood yet again with little substance but heavy on visual effects reminiscent of 300. Plenty of action, mostly in slow-mo harking back to the days of bullet time over used by the Matrix franchise, with blood & gore aplenty.
As I've mentioned before Greek Mythology re-written for artistic license by Hollywood. For starters Hyperion was a Titan himself & not a mortal man & Tartarus was not a mountain guarded by a gate straight out of LOTR, it was an abyss below the Underworld used as a dungeon where the Titans were imprisoned by the Olympian Gods, the only bit they got right.
This kind of incorrect portrayal usually kills a movie for me & this was almost true here. It has its moments but they are few & far between. My excitement was pretty much extinguished by the time the Titans were released & boy were they a disappointment, resembling zombies instead of mighty former Gods as they were before being over thrown by their own siblings.
