Review of Immortals (2011) by Brian P — 06 Jan 2014
Immortals gets 4 stars because the visuals, graphics and special effects are awesome, (in a 300 sort of way) It also gets marks for having an all-round visually stunning cast, Yes your eyes will be happy. The overall story however is just okay. Mickey Roarke as King Hyperion is a bad, bad man and while I've been hearing about Henry Cavill for years now this is the first thing I've seen him in and I have to say I wasn't overly impressed. Um, nice abs.
Here he plays a common stonemason named Theseus who vows to avenge his mother, after she's killed in one of Hyperion's brutal raids. Along the way he meets an Oracle, (Freida Pinto) who convinces him to (a) embrace his destiny and (b) take her virginity. The final half hour has 3 huge battles going on and the one with the (golden) Gods and the Titans is so visually epic that I had to watch it twice. Henry and Roarke have a big showdown that ain't too shabby either. I liked the ending here which has somehow made me curious about more Greek mythology. 01.05.14.
"Theseus assembles a band of fierce warriors to stop King Hyperionfrom acquiring a weapon that will allow him toconquor the world in this awe inspiring fantasy based on stories from Greek mythology.".
