Review of Immortal Beloved (1994) by Austin S — 09 Jun 2007
I used to really enjoy this film. There are so many great references by Bernard Rose to Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange. However, I think this movie was made a little too early for the special effects to really grasp the fictitious connotations ascribed to Beethoven.
That is, I think a Julie Taymor'esc production would been more intriguing. I also didn't care for the fact the film gives some finality to the mysterious letters of Beethoven's written to his Immortal Beloved.
However, a powerful film, there will always be images burned in my memory.
