Review of Imitation of Life (1959) by Ann J — 13 Jul 2007
All the allegorical and fascinating ways Sirk uses melodrama and 50s postcard-perfectness to drive home his themes of racial tension are reasons why this film has a timelessness. The performances by Susan Kohner and Juanita Moore are staggeringly moving.
I'm not going out on a limb when I say this, but this is one of the most important movies ever made. And yes, if you have a heart, you will weep.
