Review of Imitation of Life (1959) by Jeremy D — 02 Jan 2008
It's absolutely brilliant. A very poignant film that deals w. the contemporary issues of racism and heritage. It's ashame what people will do for fame. And in the end, the pursuit of happiness ends up being one of the biggest disappointments in life.
With a deft mixture of icy detachment and morose sentimentality rendered through a transcendent art direction, Sirk leads the film onto an inimitable crescendo of highly adorned emotion and tragedy.
