Review of Imitation of Life (1959) by Nicole A — 08 Feb 2008
Ok, so its a chick flick, but its a damn fine one! Beautifully shot and very camp 1950"s melodrama. Fabulous story line critiquing materialism and ambition as well as a fairly honest (given sensorship at the time) view of racism in the US.
Juanita Moore is wonderful (probably the only person in the whole movie who isn't overacting like mad!). I defy even the hardest hearted amoungst you not to be in tears by the end.
