Review of Imitation of Life (1934) by Syreeta D — 20 Nov 2007
What an eye opener, I saw this when I was quite young ( '59 version)I cried then, and I cry now. The relationships between mother and both daughters is lovely, such a shame that it was too late for Sarah Jane. Which shows that deep down she did love her mum, it was just easier to play white. The end of the movie is very very moving, that singing just sets the tone. Either version, trust me you WILL be crying.
It hurts to know that nearly 70 years later, people still have the mentality of back then, it's just that now it is illegal.
