Review of I'm Your Man (2021) by Bertobellamy — 09 Jul 2022
'I'm Your Man' isn't just another cautionary tale about the dangers of technology replacing humans; with intelligent comedy and a stellar performance by Dan Stevens, the film brilliantly portrays the ever present dissatisfaction feeling that makes us humans.
The movie follows a german archeologist that takes part in a tech test to gain favor from his boss: she spends three weeks with a humanoid robot designed to make her happy. Of course, there are some traces of 'Her,' 'Ex-Machina,' and other AI-centric sci-fi films, but 'I'm Your Man' cleverly uses the romantic comedy tropes to explore the feelings of a lonely woman that stumbles with the elusive chance of being happy, or at least the illusion of it.
This movie will make you laugh and even cry if you relate to Alma's conflict, but the most important thing about it it's the existential questions it asks and the answers it doesn't provide.
