Review of I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020) by Hallowed-Shal — 06 Sep 2020
If Kaufman’s intention with this self-indulgent mess was to troll pseudo-academic film critics (as I suspect it might be), he has succeed (judging by the ridiculously effusive critical praise thus far).
If it was anything else, the film is a fail. And, if the answer to the intention of the movie isn’t sufficiently made clear for the majority of its audience, then has it really achieved much? The writer‘s/director’s schtick of painstakingly exploring the inner working of the mind - with a cleverer-than-thou pretentiousness - is what we’ve come to expect, and has, I’m afraid, grown tiresome.
At the least, it’s not compelling enough to slog through for a painful 134 minutes.
