Review of I'm Still Here (2010) by Ron C — 08 Jan 2011
Joaquin Phoenix's two-year piece of celeb-gossip performance art is definitely something conversation worthy. Unfortunately, the film documenting it isn't. Having Phoenix retire from acting and attempt a hip-hop career, and watch his life crash and burn faster and faster the longer his beard gets, is an ambitious feat that was surprisingly pulled off.
Phoenix sells it completely, either proving him an absolutely exceptional method actor or just batshit crazy. However, we've all seen the Letterman clip, and Wikipedia certainly can fill in the blanks.
Very little humour helps the film from simply chugging along, and there seems to be a rather strange amount of penis on display. Joaquin, nice experiment, now start making movies again.
