We all know by now that Joaquin Phoenix's train-wreck attempt at being a hip-hop star was all a hoax staged for the making of this train-wreck of a fake documentary. The premise of conducting a hoax to make a film about it is not the problem, it's that it is so poorly executed.
Even a fake documentary needs a chance to develop and progress. Here Phoenix is a disaster from frame one, so the film has nowhere to go.
