As a movie... meh. But from an art standpoint... they went a step further than the basic goal of movies. Directors are always trying to suspend disbelief. That's the point (in most cases). This transcended the screen, and made people believe that something off screen was taking place.
Performance art at it's finest... even if the whole thing is a little crude.
