Review of I'm Not There (2007) by Marcello L — 24 Mar 2009
I wasted a blank DVD by lasering this 2 hr nonsense on it. And a CD label.
I guess its supposed to be deep and cryptic and if I like Dylan I should like this movie.
Some of the scenes were alright. I never viewed the "explanation" that apparently comes with the movie. Maybe that's why I'm not impressed.
The movie is like a dream. Well, I don't want a dream. I want a story about Bob Dylan. If I wanted a dream I'd watch a David Lynch film.
Its too distracting when they refer to him as "Jack Robbins" or "Roberts" or whatever they called him- you never actually hear the name Bob Dylan in the movie. This is too artsy with too many tricks. I'd rather watch a documentary. I read his book "Chronicles" and that was good.
By the way, they ripped off Fellini's "8 and 1/2" toward the end. God... why bother?
