Review of I'm Not There (2007) by Nadene R — 11 Apr 2009
This film was a puzzle. Remove the known cast. Remove all knowledge you have of Dylan. And it would be an endurance test. Disjointed, but well-performed. Visually exciting, but too clever for it's own good (like one big "in joke").
And too long. Something for the fans. Something for the curious. I'm glad I watched it, but I felt it told me no more about Dylan than that which I expected. Stars indulge. Careful for what you wish for.
Men in the 60s and 70s were still coming to terms with women's lib. Yadda yadda. A great poet does not make a great man.
