Review of I'm Not There (2007) by Jonathan G — 17 May 2009
It's really hard to judge this movie about Bob Dylan's life. I started watching it 3 times, the first two I fell asleep after 15 minutes. Expect to be confused and uninterested if you don't know any thing about Dylan.
Before my third attempt, I went and read some of the Behind The Scenes "Intro" information about the movie included on the dvd. Finally the pieces started connecting for me and I was able to enjoy it a bit more.
Dylan fans will adore it. It seems very well written and even mystical. Cate Blanchett, Ben Whishaw, and Christian Bale did exceptionally well as Dylan. Richard Gere- felt like I was watching him play the role of a doctor, instead of a retired outlaw of the old west.
I'd recommend don't watch this movie unless you have a real interest in Bob Dylan.
