Review of I'm Not There (2007) by Lindsey A — 19 Oct 2009
I like Bob Dylan and am interested by his life, but I just couldn't make it through this film. I didn't care for how it was so abstract, that the characters playing Bob Dylan were not really playing Bob Dylan, but channeling him into a story that might have been had he been somebody else, or that closely mirrored his life but pretended they were not.
Some segments were really, really great. Cate Blanchett did a bang-up job, I couldn't rave enough about her role in this film. But I was totally bored by it, honestly. I couldn't make it all the way through, it just didn't do it for me.
In the end, I think if you're gonna make a film about the life and times of Bob Dylan, just do it, damn it.
