Review of I'm Not There (2007) by Wei Z — 28 Mar 2010
I decided to revisit this movie after familiarizing myself with Bob Dylan's work more. The first time I saw it, I found it baffling but strangely intriguing. I didn't dislike it, but I found myself too confused to like it.
This film is definitely messy, and it lacks the directorial clarity required to totally pull off its style. Nevertheless, it's a mostly satisfying work that in some ways captures what Dylan represents as a person.
There are lots of great performances and, of course, the music is incredible. It's a sprawled out, flawed and strangely fascinating film.
