Review of I'm Not There (2007) by George S — 06 Apr 2010
I couldn't see the movie complete, but I think enough to have an idea from it. The movie tries to show Bob Dylan as someone who was interested in writing into music 'the time where he lived' and to express his own feelings, so, far away from the idea of a social composer, even a little selfish, whose fans, feeling betrayed by him stopping with protest song, would have become crazy and act in a crazy way.
Probably it's an accurate description about Bob Dylan, but it does not other thing but confirming what I thought about him: overrated. Talking about the movie, the change from one character to other (and from one style of telling a story to other) can be funny at the beginning, and also some particular performances (Cate Blanchett the main, but also others), but the main character (any of them, the whole of it), lacks of interest and make you feel you are watching an empty pretty-colored box.
You can watch it, and it has some interesting discussion, but finally, I could say that either the character or the movie, as someone said one, 'sell smoke'.
