Review of I'm Not There (2007) by Scott B — 11 May 2012
Cate Blanchett is striking as early Dylan. One of the best acting performances of all time. The rest are a hodgepodge of solid to great, and unique, results (Heath Ledger's dream-sequence-like Dylan) and the movie shows its awkward side at times, like the beginning of the film and late 70's era Dylan reenactments.
However, the film is shot beautifully and the pacing is glorious. The carefully picked score carries it. It's certainly an original take on Dylan. 5 stars for Blanchett's portrayal, the bulk of the music represented, and hands down some of the best directing from Todd Haynes.
